Mature Adults: In 1973 Len Hansen founded the first professionally-published mature market newspapers in the nation, and served as editor and publisher for 12 years. His Mainly for Seniors column was carried 14 years in more than 200 newspapers.
 
His book, Life Begins at 50: A Handbook for Creative Retirement Planning, is the longest-selling (12 years) in the retirement subject field.
 
Len is respected as the dean in writing to, for and about mature adults. The American Society on Aging presented him its prestigious Long-Term Achievement Award in National Media; The Alicia Patterson Foundation named him a Fellow in Journalism in 1999; and the National Press Foundation has granted three Fellowships. He has also received national and regional awards in journalism for writing, editing and investigative journalism.

Fraud: Investigative reporter Hansen has
  • nabbed perpetrators of fraud against mature adults, and most resulted in successful prosecutions and criminal terms for the accused;
  • found and proved misuse of mature resident funds by a major life care community operator, the latter resulting the changing of consumer laws in several states;
  • discovered the control of a national non-profit senior organization by a profit-makinginsurance company and, when his investigation was reported in other, major media, brought federal intervention and a divestiture of the joint-operation.
His major investigations have been joined by major media such as CBS 60 Minutes and The Wall Street Journal. His Scams and Scalawags series was a major feature of wisecity.com.
